Susan M. Jones

    Susan came to the Central Texas area via the US Army when she was first stationed at Fort Hood in 1977 with the 6th Cavalry Brigade (Air Combat). After transferring to Germany in 1980, she returned to Fort Hood and was stationed with the 1st Cavalry Division in 1983.  In 1986 she exited the Army and transitioned to the Individual Ready Reserve until 1989.  She has lived in the Central Texas Area for a total of 40 years.

    She earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Business from the University of Central Texas in 1990 (now Texas A&M University-Central Texas) and a Master of Public Administration degree from Troy State University in 1993.

    She has been helping families with the American Dream of home ownership since 1986 and is currently a Vice President at the Federal Savings Bank.  Prior to that, she was employed by Gateway Mortgage Group and  Extraco Banks in Harker Heights.     

    She was first elected to the KISD Board of Trustees in May 2011 and is currently serving her 5th term.  She has served on the Board Audit Committee since its inception in 2012 and currently serves as its Chairman.  She was appointed as the Board’s representative to the Tax Appraisal District of Bell County Board of Directors in 2016 and served till 2021.  Prior to being elected as Vice President, she served as Secretary of the Board. She brings a wealth of business knowledge and experience to the school board and attributes her success to her educational opportunities, her military experience, and her family’s strong work ethic.

    Susan also supports her community through many other leadership roles. She has served as Chairman of the Harker Heights Chamber of Commerce, Chairman of the Leon Valley District, and the Longhorn Council of Boy Scouts of America for Nolanville, Harker Heights, Killeen, Fort Hood, Copperas Cove, Gatesville, Evant, and Hamilton, Chairman of the Greater Fort Hood Association of the United States Army (AUSA) Scholarship Committee, and Chairman of the Rotary Club of Killeen Heights Scholarship Program.  She also served for many years on the Better Business Bureau board of directors serving Central, Coastal, Southwest Texas, and the Permian Basin.  

    Susan is married to Fulton Jones, a retired veteran. Their two sons are graduates of Harker Heights High School and their niece graduated from KISD Early College High School.
