The KISD Investigations and School Safety Directorate (I&SS) is responsible for the coordination of the district’s safety-related efforts. This includes coordinating security and safety efforts with Ft. Cavazos officials, conducting internal audits and administrative investigations, as well as coordinating district-wide security and safety plans/programs which enhance campus safety and create a safe environment for all students, staff, and visitors.
We also coordinate the district’s Safe Place Program and the School Crossing Guard Program.

In the event of an emergency, clarity is key, below are some important terms to know.

Hold
HOLD
“In your room or area, clear the halls.”Students are trained to:
- Clear the hallways and remain in their room or area until all clear is announced.
- Do business as usual.
Staff are trained to:
- Recover people from the hallway or other areas.
- Close and lock the door.
- Account for students and adults.
- Do business as usual.

Secure
SECURE
“Get inside. Lock exterior doors”Students are trained to:
- Return inside of building.
- Do business as usual.
Staff are trained to:
- Recover students and staff from outside building.
- Ensure nearby exterior doors are locked.
- Increase situational awareness.
- Account for students and adults.
- Do business as usual.

Lockdown
LOCKDOWN
“Locks, lights, out of sight"Students are trained to:
- Move away from sight.
- Maintain silence.
- Do not open the door!
Staff are trained to:
- Recover students from hallway if it is safe to do so.
- Ensure classroom door is locked.
- Turn out the lights.
- Move away from line of sight.
- Maintain silence.
- Do not open the door.
- Prepare to evade or defend.

Evacuate
EVACUATE
“To a location”Students are trained to:
- Leave stuff behind, except for phone if possible.
- Form a single file line.
Staff are trained to:
- Grab classroom safety bag.
- Lead students to the evacuation location.
- Take roll, account for students.
- Report injuries or problems to admin/first responders utilizing the red/green card method.
