Letter to Parents of AP Students

  • At Killeen ISD, we believe in empowering students to embrace challenges and rise to their fullest potential. Advanced Placement (AP) courses provide students with a unique opportunity to prepare for the rigors of college-level coursework. The rich materials, engaging classroom discussions, and demanding assignments typical of AP classes help students master content and develop critical thinking skills highly valued by colleges and universities across the country.

Additionally, by participating in AP classes, students not only gain the chance to earn college credit but also distinguish themselves in the college admissions process.

As parents and guardians, you play a vital role in helping your child succeed in these academically challenging courses. Below are some suggestions to support your student’s journey:

    • Create a dedicated study space for homework and learning activities.
    • Encourage prioritization of classes, extracurricular commitments, and personal responsibilities.
    • Promote collaboration by forming or participating in regular study groups.
    • Review academic goals including high school graduation and college admission requirements together.

Throughout their time in Killeen ISD, your child’s teachers will guide them in analyzing a variety of literary works, from timeless classics to thought-provoking contemporary pieces. To inspire a love of literature and broaden students' exposure, Killeen ISD teachers have adopted the following list of novels for classroom instruction. While not all students will read every book listed, we encourage extensive reading to prepare for both coursework and future AP exams.
