• Killeen Independent School District implemented the Homeless Awareness & Response Program to address the difficulties that homeless children and youth may experience when enrolling, attending and succeeding in school. Our goal is to ensure that homeless students may enroll in and have an equal opportunity to succeed in school.

Under the McKinney-Vento Homeless Assistance Act, HARP strives to eliminate barriers that limit the access of homeless children and youth to educational opportunities and other services.  HARP provides services designed to enable homeless children and youth to meet the same challenging state academic standards to which all students are held.

HARP assists with educating administrators, counselors, and educators in understanding the obstacles that homeless students face and how to effectively advocate for those students that are affected by homelessness.

HARP collaborates with the community and other local programs to improve the academic outcomes, well-being, and emotional needs of young people who are experiencing homelessness.
