Texas Health and Human Services (HHS) is partnering with the Texas Department of Agriculture (TDA) and the Texas Education Agency (TEA) to provide summer 2022 Pandemic Electronic Benefits Transfer (P-EBT) benefits to eligible children.

Eligibility

A child is eligible for P-EBT benefits for the school year 2021–2022 if they meet both of the following criteria:

They are eligible for free or reduced-price meals under the National School Lunch Program (NSLP); and
They temporarily lost access to free or reduced-price school meals during the 2021–2022 school year due to COVID-19 related absences, virtual attendance, or school closures.
Children can be eligible for NSLP in different ways. Children are eligible if they meet any of the following criteria:

Approved, or “NSLP certified,” after returning a completed NSLP household application to their school for the current school year.
Directly certified through state or local programs such as SNAP, Medicaid, TANF, foster care, migrant, or homeless youth.
Enrolled in Community Eligibility Provision (CEP) schools or Provision 2 (P2) schools. Children attending these schools are NSLP-eligible and do not need to complete an NSLP household application.

If your child is eligible for P-EBT benefits for the school year 2021–2022, you will be mailed a notice in April and/or July. This notice will include the amount of benefits your child will receive, an explanation of how their benefit amount was determined, and let you know if there are further steps you need to take. There is no online application for the school year 2021–2022 P-EBT benefits.
