Dear Bobcat Students and Families,
Welcome to Chaparral High School – Where You Belong!
At Chaparral High School, we believe that strong relationships create strong learners. As we embark on the rest of our academic year, we are excited to welcome each of you—whether you are returning or joining our family for the first time. You are an essential part of our community, and we are committed to ensuring that every student feels valued, supported, and empowered to succeed.
Our mission is to cultivate a learning environment where respect, responsibility, and resilience guide us daily. We honor the diversity of our students, knowing that every unique story strengthens the fabric of our school. Through meaningful connections, engaging academics, and opportunities to lead, we equip students with the skills and confidence to thrive both in and beyond the classroom.
Excellence is not just an expectation—it’s a shared journey. Our teachers and staff are here to encourage, challenge, and inspire, helping each student discover their passions and reach their highest potential. We are also partners in this journey with you, our families. Open communication and collaboration between home and school ensure that every student receives the support they need to grow academically, socially, and emotionally.
To help set each student up for success, all students received a condensed version of the Parent/Student/Guardian Handbook during the first few days of school. We encourage you to review it together, as safety and well-being are our top priorities. The full KISD Student Code of Conduct is available online here.
We are excited about all the possibilities the rest of this year holds. Thank you for trusting us with your child’s journey. Together, we will make this an unforgettable semester of learning, leadership, and connection!
Go Bobcats!

Dr. Elizabeth Cunningham
Killeen ISD is excited to announce Dr. Elizabeth Cunningham as the new principal for Chaparral High School.
Currently the principal of KISD’s Career Center, Cunningham will begin her new role March 31, taking over for executive director for student success Micah Wells, who has served as interim principal since January.
“An experienced, proven leader within the district, Dr. Cunningham possesses the perfect blend of relational capacity and system focus,” Killeen ISD Superintendent of Schools Jo Ann Fey said. “The Career Center has continued to blossom under her thoughtful leadership, and her passion for guiding students through their educational journeys will put Chaparral students in position to flourish beyond the high school’s doors.”
Cunningham began in the district as an assistant principal at Eastern Hills (2016-2019) and was the Harker Heights High School curriculum director from 2019 through the 2022-2023 school year.
She was elevated to principal of the Career Center in 2023-2024, managing a growing enrollment, leading strategic planning initiatives and collaborating with KISD’s CTE team to earn District of Distinction honors from the Career and Technical Association of Texas, among other daily tasks on the bustling campus.
“I am thrilled by the opportunity to lead Chaparral High School. CHS is a vibrant, thriving school community with incredible staff, students, and parents,” Cunningham said. “I am excited to get to know the Bobcat family better as we work together to build Chaparral's bright future.”
After graduating from Harker Heights High School, Cunningham earned a bachelor’s degree from University of North Texas, a Master of Education degree from Lamar University and a Doctorate of Education degree from Abilene Christian University in organizational leadership.
