Dr. Elizabeth Cunningham
Killeen ISD is excited to announce Dr. Elizabeth Cunningham as the new principal for Chaparral High School.
Currently the principal of KISD’s Career Center, Cunningham will begin her new role March 31, taking over for executive director for student success Micah Wells, who has served as interim principal since January.
“An experienced, proven leader within the district, Dr. Cunningham possesses the perfect blend of relational capacity and system focus,” Killeen ISD Superintendent of Schools Jo Ann Fey said. “The Career Center has continued to blossom under her thoughtful leadership, and her passion for guiding students through their educational journeys will put Chaparral students in position to flourish beyond the high school’s doors.”
Cunningham began in the district as an assistant principal at Eastern Hills (2016-2019) and was the Harker Heights High School curriculum director from 2019 through the 2022-2023 school year.
She was elevated to principal of the Career Center in 2023-2024, managing a growing enrollment, leading strategic planning initiatives and collaborating with KISD’s CTE team to earn District of Distinction honors from the Career and Technical Association of Texas, among other daily tasks on the bustling campus.
“I am thrilled by the opportunity to lead Chaparral High School. CHS is a vibrant, thriving school community with incredible staff, students, and parents,” Cunningham said. “I am excited to get to know the Bobcat family better as we work together to build Chaparral's bright future.”
After graduating from Harker Heights High School, Cunningham earned a bachelor’s degree from University of North Texas, a Master of Education degree from Lamar University and a Doctorate of Education degree from Abilene Christian University in organizational leadership.
