Ms. Sonja Lavan

Hello PUMAS! Welcome back! 

 

My name is Sonja Lavan and I am the Social Emotional Learning Specialist here at Pershing Park Elementary. I have worked on our beautiful campus for 18 years and have been in the Killeen Independent School District for 22 years altogether. I started working at Persing Park as a 5th Grade Teacher, and now enjoy working with students as part of the counseling team. I have a Bachelor's degree in Interdisciplinary Studies/EDU and a Master's degree in School Counseling. 

 

When I am not working with our PUMAS, I am at home and enjoying my family. I have three children, and three grandchildren. They keep me busy with trying new things such as cooking, dancing and traveling. One of my new hobbies is listening to audible books.

 

My goal is to empower students to achieve their personal greatness as well as meet their needs. I strive do this through Social Emotional Learning (SEL), a process in which children learn to identify and manage their emotions, develop self confidence/self worth, build positive relationships, and make responsible decisions.
