Mrs. Kara Smith

I am truly honored to serve as Assistant Principal this school year. While I am new to Killeen Independent School District, I am no stranger to elementary education or school leadership.  I spent the entirety of my teaching career in a first-grade classroom. I love working with primary aged children and seeing the magic of when children learn to read.  As a school leader, I served as a middle school dean at Mercer Middle School in Aldie, Virginia.  While middle school was a drastic change from an elementary classroom, the knowledge and experience I gained of understanding where elementary-aged students need to grow as middle school students was paramount.

I am a proud graduate of the University of Tennessee, Knoxville where I earned a Bachelor of Science in Child Development (2005) and a Master of Science in Early Childhood Education (2006). More recently, I received a Master of Instructional Leadership from Shenandoah University (2017), with a concentration in Administration and Supervision.
I look forward to working in partnership with the Pershing Park community. I promise to advocate for every student’s well-being and to support a learning environment that is conducive for deeper learning.
