Degrees and Certifications:

Mrs. Debbi Barkley

My family has 3 living generations of educators. My mother was a special education teacher beginning in 1960 and my daughter began teaching at the high school and college level in 2014. I have been an educator with Killeen ISD since August 1991. My career began as a 4th grade teacher at East Ward Elementary School. I moved to Brookhaven Intermediate the year that it opened to teach 5th grade United States History. In 1997, I earned my Librarian Certification and moved to Reeces Creek where I served as Librarian for fourteen years. I joined the West Ward Staff in 2011 as the Campus Instructional Specialist and am presently serving as the Assistant Principal to our new campus, Killeen Elementary.

I grew up in various cities in Louisiana and Texas including San Antonio, New Orleans, Houston, Lafayette, and Sugar Land. After graduating high school, I went to Houston Baptist University and earned my Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education and History. I moved to Killeen to teach a few months later. I earned my Certification for Library Science/Learning Resources from the University of Houston at Clear Lake.  When my daughter went away to college I went back to school and earned my Master of Education in Administration and Leadership from Texas A&M Central Texas.

I enjoy reading children’s books, playing with my dogs, spending time with my family, and traveling. My bucket list includes visiting all 7 continents. So far, I have been to locations in North America, Europe, and Africa. My goal is to try something new at least once a year.

I am excited to serve as part of the Joey Family!
