Mrs. Katie Drake, Campus Instructional Specialist

Before joining Cavazos Elementary as the Campus Instructional Specialist, Katie Drake was part of Killeen ISD’s Secondary Instructional Coaching team. Mrs. Drake helped open the first STEM Academy in KISD as the seventh grade ELAR teacher on an interdisciplinary grade-level team. Mrs. Drake also worked a combined 11 years as a third-grade classroom teacher and as a K-5 Gifted Education specialist.  

Her professional certifications include EC-4 Generalist, 7-12 ELAR, GT Supplemental, ESL Supplemental, and Principal as Instructional Leader. Areas of professional interest include developing student readers and writers, writing for teachers and others in the education field, GT Education, and Project-Based Learning. She is a Board member of the Texas Association for the Gifted and Talented, a member of the Texas Council of Teachers of English Language Arts, and a member of the Writers’ League of Texas.  

Katie Drake earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Early Childhood Education from Tarleton State University-Central Texas and a Master of Education in Educational Leadership degree from Texas A&M University-Central Texas. She believes leaders must clarify and live by their own values before they can guide others in thought or action. 

Mrs. Drake lives in Killeen, Texas with her family. Personally, Katie enjoys kayaking, road-tripping, and writing young adult novels.
