    Year at Glance    

    Second graders will:
    Learn to read and comprehend at higher levels.
    Continue to build upon their understanding of basic mathematical concepts:

    • Geometry
    • Measurement

    Learn about history, geography, economics, our system of government, and the cultures in our society.

    Learn about the world around them through simple experiments and investigations into earth, life, and physical science.

    Write to express themselves effectively for various purposes and audiences.

    Home Access Center

    You can view your child's grades at any time by accessing the Home Access Center from the Cedar Valley website or Killeen ISD's home page. Contact the front office for your login information.

    Bully Prevention

    Students who exhibit bully-type behavior will receive a disciplinary short form. The FOURTH incident will result in an office referral. An extreme case of bullying may result in an immediate office referral.

    ***Inappropriate items***

    Toys, fidget spinners, or other inappropriate items that students might bring to school will be confiscated and kept until the end of the school year. Please encourage your child to keep those items at home. (See Student Handbook).

    Morning location before school

    Students are expected to have a book to read in their book bags AT ALL TIMES. They will sit in the hallway beside their classroom reading quietly until the bell rings.

    ***Working mornings-students may catch up on unfinished work by going to the stage before school.

    Grading Policy

    Late work Policy

    Students are given ample time to complete classwork so they are expected to turn assignments in on time. Work turned in late will receive a 10 point deduction each day the assignment is late. After three days the grade will be reduced to zero.

    Absent Make-up Work

    When students have been absent, they are allowed 5 days to make up missing work during the school day.

    Tuesday Folders

    Your child will be coming home with a folder every Tuesday. The folder contains graded work from the week along with important school information. It is important to review completed work with your child and discuss problem areas.

    Show your work

    Students are required to show their work in order to receive full credit. (See Student Handbook or Teacher Discipline Plan).

    First Bell - 8:00 am
    Tardy Bell - 8:05 am
    Specials (PE/Music) - 9:45 to 10:30 am
    2nd grade lunch starts at 11:16 am
