Ms. Joan Russell

My name is Joan Russell and I am a Professional School Counselor at Skipcha Elementary School. This year I will be working with pre-k through second grade. I am originally from Maryland. However, I have resided in Colorado, Alaska, and Texas. Last year I celebrated my 21st year with the Killeen Independent School District. Previously I was employed by Round Rock ISD as a school counselor. My past teaching experience includes teaching grades 1, 3, 4, and 5 as well as special education. I am also a certified educational diagnostician and an LPC-S.

I attended Towson State University in Maryland and earned a bachelor’s degree in elementary education. I received my master’s degree in educational psychology from the University of Mary Hardin Baylor. I have also been enrolled in some graduate classes at Tarleton University in Killeen.

Traveling with my husband, watching movies, camping, reading, knitting, and horseback riding are some of the activities that I enjoy. Spending time with our pets is also something that I enjoy doing in my free time. Our pet family includes two horses and two dogs.

Ms. Patricia Journey

I have a Bachelor degree in Science and a Master degree in Education. I have worked in Killeen ISD for 33 years as a counselor. I believe that it is important to be available to all students; therefore I am in classes teaching social skills biweekly. The students who need extra help with social skills are placed in a small group and will be seen during their scheduled time. I encourage parents to get in touch with me if you have any concerns.

I am excited to be working with the following students in third, fourth and fifth grades. You can contact me through my email address
patricia.journey@killeenisd.org or call me at 336-6696.

Ms. Sarah Rice

Hi, I am Ms. Rice! I have been with KISD since 2015. I have a Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education, a Master’s degree in Elementary Education with a concentration in Reading, and a Master’s degree in School Counseling. I am currently working toward my licensure to become a Licensed Professional Counselor. I will be working with students across all grade levels. Specifically targeting those with attendance concerns and severe emotional concerns that impede their learning.

It is our goal in the counseling department to meet each individual student’s Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) needs. We accomplish this goal through classroom guidance lessons, small group counseling, and individual counseling. I look forward to getting to know you and your child this year. If you have any questions or concerns, please call, or email me and we can schedule a meeting. Have a terrific year!
