Dismissal Procedures
-
Saegert Elementary is a 100% ID check campus.
At Saegert Elementary, our dismissal procedures are designed with the utmost care and safety in mind. We prioritize the well-being of our students, staff, and the community during this critical transition period. To ensure a smooth dismissal process, please refer to the map below for detailed instructions. Our dedicated staff is always on hand to assist and guide students as they enter/exit the school premises, and we appreciate your cooperation in helping us maintain a secure and efficient dismissal routine.
Thank you for entrusting us with your child's education, and together, we can make arrival/dismissal a safe and streamlined experience for all.
Drop-Off and Dismissal
-
Keys to a successful Drop-Off and Dismissal:
1. It is imperative, for the safety of students and staff that ALL kids who exit cars should exit on the side near the curb. Please take time to rearrange cars so that children can do this.
2. Please watch and pull as far forward as you can when you get to your numbered valet spot. This will help us get the most cars in the line to open doors and get kids out or put them in the car. *It is a courtesy for staff members to open the door, not a requirement.
3. The valet line can get very long. For the first few days, you will need to plan for additional time while waiting. Each day it will get a little shorter. The goal is to be finished with dismissal by 4:10 pm.
4. The office is closed from 3:10-4:10 daily. Please plan accordingly if you need to get your child for an appointment. Children who have appointments for the afternoon must be picked up by 3:10 pm. Please remember, this cuts into their instructional time.
5. We are a tier 3 campus for bus transportation. Please download the Edulog App in order to track your child's school bus.
6. Patience is the key when picking up children. We will do our very BEST each day for every child to be safe going home. We treasure your children so a little extra time, now and then, is worth it for the safety of each child and staff member.
Valet
-
Valet:
Our valet system provides a safe and efficient way to deliver your child conveniently to your car. With your help and cooperation, this dismissal process can be done in 15 minutes. Of course, the first days of school are a little slower while everyone becomes familiar with our system. Please be patient and allow our process to work. You must have a car rider number to use this process. We will be issuing numbers during Meet the Teacher. Numbers may be obtained any time after that through the front office. Please place the car rider number in the front window so the staff can easily view the number. One staff member will radio the numbers in the order you arrive. Please follow their guidance and pull forward when directed.Parents who only have Pre-K and Kindergarten students (no older siblings):
who pick up their children by car will be given a YELLOW card with a number printed on it. You will place this yellow card on the dashboard of your vehicle where it is visible. In order to allow our younger students to be dismissed first, we ask that only parents with yellow cards arrive by 3:35 p.m.- Parents are asked to form 1 line of cars on the east side (Mikulec Drive). If you enter Schorn from WS Young, please make a left on Epinette and circle around to Oster then Mikulec. (Refer to the map attached)
- Parents of 1st – 5th graders or Pre-K or Kindergarten students with older siblings, will be given a white card to place on the dashboards. Please begin arriving after 3:30. Because this process takes a few minutes, arriving at 4:00 or 4:05 pm is perfectly fine and will shorten your wait time for your child to be loaded into your car.
- You must have this white or yellow card displayed on your dashboard for your child to be loaded into your car. If you forget it at home, you will have to park and come into the front office with your ID after 4:10 in order to pick up your child.
- Please see the map below for lining up procedures. For the safety and well-being of all students make sure you are driving cautiously and be courteous to all during dismissal.
If you are coming to school from WS Young, please make a left on Epinette Drive and go around to the back of the school to join the car rider line. Please do not try to make a left into the school as this creates a traffic jam.
Daycare
-
Daycare:
Daycare students will be picked up from the west side of the building. The daycare provider will continue to sign the students(s) out in the manner they do now.
Park and Pick Up
-
Park and Pick Up:
Parents who want to park and pick up students will need to walk to the side doors of the building near the gates to the large playground and wait for students to come out. PK and Kinder students will be dismissed at 3:45 pm. All other students will begin dismissing at 3:55 pm. ALL adults picking up students will need a form of identification (daily) and must be on the pickup list.
Walkers
-
Walker- walking home with siblings or alone:
Students who are walking with either parents, siblings, or alone will be picked up at the exit for walkers as indicated on the map. For safety purposes, parents are not allowed to come to the valet station to pick up children. Students who are walking home will be dismissed from the side doors. This is a change from previous years. Walkers will NOT be escorted to the crosswalks. If siblings will be walking together, they will meet on the blacktop on the east side of campus for the Mikulec crosswalk. If they will be crossing the Eppinette or Oster crosswalks, they will be released on the west side of the building and link up with their siblings outside the doors. Staff members will be at both exits to monitor dismissal.
Friendly Reminders
-
- Please remember that after the start bell rings, you will need to come to the front office to sign your student in.
- Also, remember to bring an ID card when you sign your student out for the day and at dismissal. This is also for anyone you have authorized to pick your student up from school.
- If your student is a bus rider, please remind them about bus safety and behavior on the bus. Bus safety is a priority and riding the bus is a privilege.
- School releases promptly at 3:55 p.m. Please ensure you are here on time to retrieve your student.
- Please do not park in the bus or fire lanes. This is a safety hazard and citations will be given. Thank you for helping us keep all students safe.
As always, the staff here at Saegert Elementary School - Killeen ISD appreciates all you do!
