Ms. Ledbetter

There are few things I have more passion for than MUSIC!  I believe that music is a language of its own and learning to communicate expressively through music is an essential part of the human experience.  Through performing, composing and experiencing others’ music, we are able to connect as individuals and learn how to express our emotions as well as develop understanding, compassion, and bond with those who have similar and different backgrounds as us.  I believe every child has a right to a complete and diverse music education.  Every child is born a musician and should be encouraged to find their voice through the artform.

I started learning piano when I was 6 years old thanks to my grandfather who gave my family the instrument.  My goal was to be able to play while I sang!  Music class was always my favorite in Elementary School and I always participated in programs, talent shows and after school choirs as well as recorder choirs.  As I entered secondary school, I also joined band as a clarinetist and participated in competitions.  I consistently received the honor of participating in All-Region Band at the 5A level, All Area Band as well as receiving 1st division ratings at solo and ensemble on clarinet solos, woodwind ensembles and piano solos.  I also participated in Piano Guild competitions and received high marks.

I attended the University of North Texas where I received my Bachelors Degree in Music Education.  After college, I worked as a Middle School Band Director as well as a 5th and 6th grade General Music Teacher and Choir Director.  After taking an 11 year break from teaching full time to start my family, I am excited to be back in the classroom working with my passion for teaching music to young children!  A student recently asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up and I said “Exactly what I am!  A music teacher and a Mom!”
