KISD Police Swear In New Officers

KISD police officersThe Killeen ISD Police Department swore in six new officers Friday, bringing the department’s roster total to 62 leading into the holiday break.

KISD Police Chief Erik Hydorn referenced the importance of close family and friends to law enforcement personnel as spouses and other family members joined the cadets for the ceremony at the KISD Jackson Professional Learning Center.

The officers completed the academy a week ago at Central Texas College through a sponsorship arrangement with KISD.

The six new officers are the third group to finish the CTC police academy and progress to KISD’s police department. Their employment includes a two-year commitment to KISD.

The relationship, Hydorn said, is a cost saver for the school district and allows cadets to study and learn alongside KISD officers.

The new cadets will complete 160 hours of additional training while paired with an experienced school district officer.

School-based law enforcement is significantly different, the chief said, than working for a city police force.

“We emphasize that positive relationship with students,” he said. “We’re trying to guide them to the right path.”

The new officers include Brendon Baughman, Giselle Espinoza, Brian Harris, Douglas Landes, Jonathan Martin, and Danielle Shea.
