  • jdaDr. Jimmie Don Aycock is a luminary in the world of Texas politics, celebrated for his unwavering dedication to public service and an illustrious career marked by tireless advocacy for education reform. Born with a passion for nurturing both the land and the minds of the community, JDA's journey traversed through various roles—from a revered veterinarian and rancher to a pivotal figure in Texas politics.

    A Texas A&M University graduate, JDA's indelible mark on public service began when, amidst a serene retirement, he was called back by the beckoning voice of civic duty. Answering that call led to a profound nine-year tenure in the Texas House of Representatives, where he left an enduring legacy as a champion for education. His quiet demeanor belied a fierce determination to revolutionize Texas' public education system for the benefit of over 5 million students statewide.

    As the Chairman of the House Public Education Committee during the 2013 and 2015 sessions, JDA spearheaded pivotal reforms that reshaped the landscape of Texas education. His visionary leadership birthed initiatives like House Bill 5, redefining the contours of public education in the state. Through his legislative acumen, he reduced the burden of standardized testing and paved the way for students to chart their career paths early in their academic journey.

    JDA's dedication didn't go unnoticed; he received accolades such as the "Champion of Education Award" from the Texas Association of School Boards, a testament to his unyielding commitment to Texas' public schools and the students they served. His impact wasn't confined to legislative chambers; he championed initiatives on the local front, serving on the Killeen ISD school board and supporting the district's educational endeavors.

    The naming of the new middle school campus after Dr. Jimmie Don Aycock stands as a testament to his enduring influence and dedication to fostering education. His name adorns not just our newest building but the very fabric of Texas education, leaving an indelible mark for generations to come.

    As he embarks on a new chapter in his life, retiring from the legislature, his legacy as a compassionate, thoughtful leader continues to inspire.
