College and Career Readiness

The career development process is unique to every person and involves one's life. Students will use decision-making and problem-solving for college and career planning. Students will explore valid, reliable educational and career information to learn more about themselves and their interests and abilities. Students integrate skills from academic subjects, information technology, and interpersonal communication to make informed decisions.

This course is designed to guide students through the process of investigation and in the development of a college and career achievement plan. Students will use inventory software or other tools to explore areas of personal interest. Students will use this information to explore educational requirements for a variety of chosen career paths.

This course includes activities designed to assist students in making informed career choices. The instruction focuses on four basic units: self-appraisal - designed to help students become aware of individual aptitudes, interests, and abilities; sixteen occupational clusters - to acquaint students with the broad areas of work and types of jobs included; societal and economic factors - job acquisition, on-the-job relations, money management, and free enterprise; and educational planning - where the student learns the relationship between school subjects and their career choices and the alternatives available for entry into various occupations. Also, students take interests and abilities inventories to determine possible career options.
