Our Campus
Shoemaker High School is located in Central Texas, 60 miles north of Austin, 163 miles southwest of Dallas/Fort Worth and 150 miles northeast of San Antonio. Shoemaker High School is part of the Killeen Independent School District. Fort Hood, the largest military installation in the world, provides the major economic base for the community. The school district has a student population of over 40,000 students which includes students from Killeen, Fort Hood, Harker Heights, and Nolanville communities. There are 32 elementary schools, 12 middle schools, 4 high schools and 5 special campuses. KISD is traditionally in the top 5% of Texas school districts in annual growth. Killeen’s four high schools account for over 6,900 students and over 1,300 seniors. Because of the concentration of military families in the school district, we experience a high student mobility rate and enjoy a wide diversity of ethnic populations with over 36 nationalities represented on campus.
Mission Statement: Shoemaker High School educates a diverse population by motivating and empowering them to be continual learners and successful, productive citizens.
Vision Statement: Shoemaker High School will be at the fore front of excellence in education by enhancing the skills needed to engage, empower, and challenge students, as well as staff, to become lifelong learners in our ever-changing global community.
School Motto:

Courses and Programs Offered
Advancement Via Individual Determination (AVID) is a program designed to help underachieving middle and high school students prepare for and succeed in colleges and universities. Students in the program commit themselves to improvement and preparation for college. AVID offers a rigorous program of instruction in academic “survival skills” and college level entry skills. The AVID program teachers the student how to study, read for content, take notes, and manage time. Students participate in collaborative study groups or tutorials led by tutors who use skillful questioning to bring students to a higher level of understanding. Shoemaker High School has the prestigious honor of being a National Demonstration Site for this program.
Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) Academy is a four year sequence of courses which introduces students to the scope, rigor and discipline of STEM related concepts prior to entering college. Introduction at this level attracts more students to the variety STEM courses and allows students to determine if these are the careers they desire.
National Honor Society gives students recognition for and encouragement in scholarship and qualities of leadership, service and character.
Advanced Placement (AP) courses sponsored by the College Board, are among the most advanced academic courses offered by KISD. College credit is offered in numerous courses.
Dual Credit provides students the opportunity to earn high school credit toward graduation as well as college credit for designated courses. These credit hours can be used toward completion of a college degree.
Talented and Gifted (TAG) curriculum is offered for students who qualify for this specialized curriculum.
Special Programs offers a wide range of instructional options for students with disabilities in programs designed to meet unique education needs. English as a second language is also offered for non-English speaking students. These instructional options range from special accommodations for students within the regular classroom to placement in highly specialized classes.
Career and Technology Course (CTE) prepare students for employment immediately after high school or while attending college. Courses are open to all students without regard to race, color, creed, religious affiliation, sex or handicap.
Communities in Schools provides licensed social workers on campus to assist students and their families with social, emotional, academic, financial, and physical needs for food, clothing, shelter, and medical care.
Student to Student (S2S) is a specialized program offered to assist our military children in transitioning successfully into Shoemaker High School. This program includes an interactive video conference to facilitate the transition of military students worldwide.
