• Elementary Special Education Services Restructuring for 2025-2026

    Enhancing Student Support and Accessibility

Killeen ISD is excited to announce an important restructuring of Special Education services, set to take effect in the 2025-2026 school year. This change will allow most students to receive Special Education services at their home campus based on their residence, rather than being bused to a different school farther away.

This update is part of our ongoing commitment to enhancing student connections, reducing transportation time, and ensuring equitable access to resources across all campuses.

Thank you for your partnership as we work to provide the best educational experience for all students in Killeen ISD!

    Dr. Paula Lawrason
    Executive Director for Specialized Learning

    Why This Change?

This restructuring is designed to provide significant benefits for students and families, including:

    • Stronger School Connections – Students will build relationships with peers and staff at their home campus, fostering a greater sense of belonging and community.
    • Less Time on the Bus – Most students will experience reduced travel times.
    • More Effective Resource Allocation – This adjustment enables Killeen ISD to distribute staffing and resources more equitably, leading to lower student-to-teacher ratios and enhanced support in all Special Education classrooms.

    Who is Impacted

Your “home campus” is the school your student is assigned to based on your home address. Choose your home campus, then the program your student is part of to see what campus your student will be assigned in the 2025-2026 school year.
