Killeen ISD Fine Arts Students Shine in Statewide Competitions and Events, Latest Updates

Texas Thespian District Round Up: Theatre students from Ellison, Harker Heights and Chaparral High Schools attended the Texas Thespian State Festival this past November.  Attendees had the opportunity to view live theatre from across the state, participate in workshops, audition and interview for colleges and employers and compete in individual events. Here are the stats overall for Killeen ISD:

College Callbacks & Interviews: Over 160 total college callbacks for Killeen ISD juniors & seniors.
 
Temple College Art Show Results:
Killeen ISD had a total of fifteen student artworks selected for the 2024 Central Texas Art Competition hosted by Temple College.  Out of 250 submitted pieces only 100 were selected for exhibition.  Killeen ISD students represented 15% of all exhibited artworks.  Students from Chaparral, Killeen and Harker Heights high schools competed with high school and college students from across Central Texas in the 45th year of this annual competition.  Congratulations to the following students on their awards:

TMEA All State Orchestra Members: For the seventh straight year in a row, Killeen ISD Orchestra students have been selected for the elite Texas Music Education Association All-State Orchestra.  Congratulations to Rebekah Koh (11) and Wonkuk “Alexander” Lee (12) on successfully completing the rigorous audition process.  This is Alexander’s second year and Rebekah’s third year as an All-State Musician.
 
Advanced Art Students Participate in First Annual College Portfolio Review: On November 21st AP and Advanced Art Students from Chaparral, Early College, Harker Heights, Killeen and Shoemaker High Schools visited with art professors from the University of Texas and Temple College to discuss their artistic development and receive feedback and guidance on their future work. This event prepares students to successfully complete the Advanced Placement Portfolio exam and for future admission by portfolio to colleges and universities. Thank you to Carolina Rubio (University of Texas), Deric Ence (Temple College) and Vernonica Hill (Temple College) for providing this valuable opportunity for learning for our students and teachers.
