New Principals Announced for the 2024-2025 School Year

Two veteran educators will step into new leadership roles in the Killeen Independent School District for the 2024-2025 school year.

Mary Lynn Gawryszewski has been named the next principal of Robert M. Shoemaker High School. She replaces Latisha Williams who moved into the role of executive director for athletics earlier this month.

Gawryszewski most recently spent two years as principal at Nolan Middle School, a stint that is part of her 19-year tenure within KISD. She previously worked at Shoemaker as the school’s curriculum director.

“I am excited to reconnect with the Grey Wolf family,” Gawryszewski said. “It’s a campus I enjoyed serving at for several years. Together we will build on the school’s solid foundation so that every student has the opportunity to succeed and reach their full potential in a positive school environment.”

Gawryszewski started with the district in 2005 as a social studies teacher at Harker Heights High School. Her experience also includes time as the campus instructional specialist at Nolan and Harker Heights, district instructional specialist and district curriculum and assessment specialist.

Gawryszewski earned a bachelor’s degree from State University of New York at Cortland in anthropology and secondary social studies, and a Master’s degree in educational leadership from Stephen F. Austin State University.

Joe Gonzalez has been named as Gawryszewski’s replacement as principal of Nolan.

Gonzalez has been with KISD since 2000 and most recently served as assistant principal at Early College High School. His KISD career started at Ellison High School as an athletic trainer. He later became a teacher and an assistant principal at Ellison before moving to ECHS.

“I am very excited to join the Mustang family and continue my education career with an amazing campus and community,” Gonzalez said. “I look forward to learning the history and traditions of the school and working with staff and families to continue the strong legacy of student success.”

Gonzalez acquired his bachelor’s degree from McMurry University, a master’s from Texas State University, and currently is working toward a doctorate degree from Texas A&M-Commerce.
