Over the last week, 65 Killeen ISD student-athletes celebrated an accomplishment four years –– and likely more –– in the making when they committed to playing and continuing their education at the collegiate level.
Athletes from Chaparral, Ellison, Harker Heights, Killeen and Shoemaker marked the achievement during signing ceremonies on each campus. Gyms and auditoriums were packed with family, friends, teammates, teachers and administrators, all enthusiastically congratulating the seniors through applause, rousing cheers, and with flowers, balloons and sugary treats.
After coaches lauded the players for their consistency in athletics and in the classroom, shared stories about each student and used the events to show those younger where hard work can lead, many of the athletes had the opportunity to thank those who helped shape their path toward reaching their goals.
