For your convenience, a printable parent absence note is available at the link below.
MIDDLE SCHOOL ATTENDANCE IS ENTERED EACH CLASS PERIOD. Students who miss school (full or any period during the school day) are REQUIRED, upon their return, to turn in a note from a parent/ guardian or professional appointment explaining the absence. Please include your child’s name, grade, date of absence, and the reason for the absence. Please submit notes to the ATTENDANCE office or you may email a parent note to the attendance office.
ATTENDANCE IS ENTERED BY THE CLASSROOM TEACHER EACH CLASS PERIOD DURING THE SCHOOL DAY. IF YOUR STUDENT IS ABSENT FOR ONE (1) OR MORE CLASS PERIODS, A PARENT/GUARDIAN OR PROFESSIONAL NOTE IS REQUIRED WHEN RETURNING TO SCHOOL.
PARENT NOTES: Ten (10) parent notes are allowed per school year. A parent note can be written to excuse your child due to illness in lieu of a doctor’s note. However, once the ten (10) parent note limit is reached, a professional appointment note will be required for additional absences.
TARDY: Your student is tardy unless he/she is in the classroom when the tardy bell rings. Fifteen (15) minutes after the tardy bell, your student is considered absent without proper documentation, for that class period.
SIGNING A STUDENT OUT OF SCHOOL EARLY: A student must be present in the classroom for a minimum of fifteen (15) after the tardy bell rings to be considered present for that class period.
UNEXCUSED ABSENCE: A parent note will not be accepted for reasons such as missing the bus, shopping, babysitting, visiting relatives, vacation, moving, extended holiday, car trouble, oversleeping, etc.
MEDICAL, DENTAL, OR LEGAL APPOINTMENTS: In cases of appointments, notes from the health care or legal professional (doctor, dentist, attorney, probation officer, judge, etc.) are PREFERRED, however, a parent note will be accepted.
AUTOMATED ATTENDANCE CALLS: Killeen ISD has implemented an automated attendance call system. If your child is marked absent for any period(s) of the day, you will receive an automated call. If you believe that you received the call in error please refer to the attendance inquiry process.
ATTENDANCE INQUIRIES: If you believe your child was marked absent in error for a specific period, please contact the teacher that marked your student absent. Attendance is entered by the classroom teacher, not the attendance office. Teacher emails are available on our campus webpage, or you can email them through Home Access. If your student was marked absent due to ISS, OSS, testing, or a field trip, the absence will be corrected within three (3) business days.
PLEASE CONTACT THE ATTENDANCE OFFICE WITH ANY QUESTIONS OR CONCERNS.
