  • Killeen ISD Logo Killeen ISD student arrested for social media threats to schools

Feb. 28, 2018 – A 12-year-old female Killeen ISD middle school student was arrested overnight for making terroristic threats against schools after an investigation by KISD police, Killeen Police, the FBI and Fort Hood authorities, Superintendent John Craft announced Wednesday.

The Roy J. Smith Middle School student made a series of threats in social media postings this week that created widespread fear among students and parents. The social media posts were shared widely by parents and students and severely disrupted the learning environment at schools. School officials fielded hundreds of phone calls from concerned parents as the threats were being shared across social media.

“We have been pursuing and investigating threats posted via social media very aggressively the past several days,” Dr. Craft said. “A social media threat made towards Smith Middle School and other KISD schools was investigated yesterday and overnight into early hours of this morning. Working with KISD Police, the Killeen Police Department, federal authorities and officials at Fort Hood, a search warrant was issued. The student was arrested at her residence and has been charged with making terroristic threats.”

Dr. Craft said Killeen ISD “takes these matters very seriously and will be pursuing charges to the fullest extent provided by state and federal statutes as well as disciplinary consequences provided by the Student Code of Conduct and the Texas Education Code. We appreciate the cooperation and hard work of the many entities involved in assisting with this investigation and in maintaining the safety of our campuses.”

  • Luis Zamora KHS Student Luis Zamora is Awarded European Volunteer Internship Program

"I applied for an Internship through ROTC Cadet Command and received the European Volunteer Internship Program. I believe it will foster character development and serve as a springboard to becoming a Foreign Area Officer in the future. I will go to camp this summer, and immediately following that, I will travel to Stuttgart, Germany to partake in the internship.

"Thank you for guiding me in the right direction and serving as a significant mentor of mine. I owe a lot of credit to the KHS Battalion. I would not be where I am at today without joining a program in high school who's mission is to motivate young people to be better citizens."
