Courses and Programs Offered

  • Advancement Via Individual Determination (AVID) is a program designed to help underachieving middle and high school students prepare for and succeed in colleges and universities. Students in the program commit themselves to improvement and preparation for college. AVID offers a rigorous program of instruction in academic “survival skills” and college level entry skills. The AVID program teachers the student how to study, read for content, take notes, and manage time. Students participate in collaborative study groups or tutorials led by tutors who use skillful questioning to bring students to a higher level of understanding.

Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) Academy is a four-year sequence of courses which introduces students to the scope, rigor and discipline of STEM-related concepts prior to entering college. Introduction at this level attracts more students to the variety of STEM courses and allows students to determine if these are the careers they desire.

The National Honor Society gives students recognition for and encouragement in scholarship and qualities of leadership, service and character.

Advanced Placement (AP) courses sponsored by the College Board, are among the most advanced academic courses offered by KISD. College credit is offered in numerous courses.

Dual Credit provides students the opportunity to earn high school credit toward graduation as well as college credit for designated courses. These credit hours can be used toward completion of a college degree.

Special Programs offer a wide range of instructional options for students with disabilities in programs designed to meet unique education needs. English as a second language is also offered for non-English speaking students. These instructional options range from special accommodations for students within the regular classroom to placement in highly specialized classes.

Career and Technology Course (CTE) prepare students for employment immediately after high school or while attending college. Courses are open to all students without regard to race, color, creed, religious affiliation, sex or handicap.

Communities in Schools provides licensed social workers on campus to assist students and their families with social, emotional, academic, financial, and physical needs for food, clothing, shelter, and medical care.

Student to Student (S2S) is a specialized program offered to assist our military children in transitioning successfully into Harker Heights High School. This program includes an interactive video conference to facilitate the transition of military students worldwide.

  • “The Journey”

If all life is but a journey,

     Valleys deep and mountains high,

Then no matter where life leads me I will walk the road with pride.

Hand in hand, let’s work together.

Let us walk the road as one.

    Fighting Knights are friends forever

    And our journey’s just begun

Fight Song

  • We are the Knights
