Howdy ROOS!

My name is Dr. Tonya Brown-Johnson, and I am so EXCITED to be a part of the ROO family!! If you really knew me, you would know that I am originally from the Cajun state of Louisiana, so “Laissez les bons temps rouler” ... that is “Let’s get the good times rolling”! To share a little bit of information about myself, I am entering my 23rd year with Killeen I.S.D. and have 25 years of teaching experience in elementary, middle school, and university-level graduate courses. During this time, I have had the opportunity to teach in the field of English/Language Arts for 24 years, being a university student-teacher supervisor, core-subject department teacher-lead, grade-level lead, as well as being a Curriculum Instructional Specialist too.

I received my Bachelor of Arts Degree in Speech Communications from McNeese State University, Master of Education Degree in Curriculum & Instruction with an emphasis on Reading from Grand Canyon University, and a Doctor of Education Degree in Curriculum and Instruction from Capella University. I am currently completing my Principal Certification Program by focusing on the testing portion now.

As for some personal points, I came to this GREAT state of Texas by way of military affiliation. I have three children, who are T’Mond (Class of 2015), Ta’Shoyn (Class of 2020), and Ta’Onyal (Class of 2024). They are my world, and they are all PROUD and SUCCESSFUL graduates from Killeen ISD! In addition, I must share that my two sons graduated from Killeen High School, so Go ROOS! On another note, I have two spoiled fur-babies who are Truffelz (Shih Tzu) and Mojo (German Shepherd).

In my role at Killeen High School, I am the Campus Instructional Coach and dedicated to facilitating the English Department. I look forward to helping teachers impart knowledge and research-based instructional strategies, which are THE best practices for students to strive at maximizing their potential as they endure life-long skills to be college and career ready. Most importantly, I am ready to go above and beyond towards helping my campus to be the BEST in all areas! So AGAIN like the Louisiana saying… “Laissez les bons temps rouler” ... that is “Let’s get the good times rolling” and have a ROOTASTIC year! ROO Pride is Justified!!!
